The Ostrobothnia Waste Management Committee draws up and decides on waste management regulations, issues general guidelines and sets municipal waste charges. The Waste Management Committee provides statements and reports on waste matters to various authorities. A requirement for the Waste Management Committee 's activities is effective cooperation with the municipal waste management company Ab Ekorosk Oy, the municipalities' environmental authorities and the Finnish Supervisory Agency.
The Ostrobothnia Waste Management Committee serves municipal residents, for instance by processing applications for extended waste container emptying intervals, complaints against municipal waste charges and notifications of shared waste containers.
The Waste Management Committee assists the supervisory authorities in ensuring that property owners comply with municipal waste management regulations. Furthermore, the Waste Management Committee has the right to verify that property owners comply with the conditions of the Committee 's decisions, primarily by inspecting the composting of biowaste on properties.
Each member municipality has one representative on the Waste Management Committee, apart from the cities Jakobstad and Kokkola, which each appoint two members. Depending on the type of administrative matter, the decision-making is made by the committee or as an office holder’s decision.
